    Hell.

I have tried everything I could to make people to post on the vboard. No matter what I do, people head for other section instead of visiting the board.

    I have tried following.

1.Popup window. I hate it but I did for a few days. -- Failed.
2.A polite request on visiting forum on news section -- Failed.
3.Sending massive what's new E-mailing, saying please use forum -- Failed.

Finally, I made the forum index page -- Seems failed.

    Hell. what is wrong?

For additional information. the site is getting 20000 ~35000 hits per day.

Create 10 accounts and talk to yourself, that usually works.

Actually as funny as that sounds... it WILL help. Just difficult, I guess it's something more suited to those with multiple personality disorders

            hey klisis

be patience and they will come - in fact it's best to let members join slowly and at a steady pace - gives you time to get to know a handful of regulars and to condition them in your forum rules and procedures

Most likely those members will then become possible mods for when your forum grows

            hope that helps

Yeah, talking to yourself always works.

And then put active threads and stuff like that on the main pages with "Related Discussions" links - things of that nature...

If you have to ask, you shouldn't be trying it!

Why don't you ask a few friends for help in your multiple personality endeavor? I don't know about you, but I could only pull off 2-3 different me's (pissed off, somewhat nice, and general jerk), and even that may be hard to maintain with any consistency.

Ideally, choose friends that do not know each other (or at least not well) in order to prevent a click-y feel. If possible, varied interests, knowledge levels, age, and gender would help too.

I had the same problem....The most important thing about a BBS is to get it crowded and popular...When it is like that, you don't have to worry anymore, but when it isn't you have to go through lot's of tricks...talking to yourself is one , but I made an agreement to a webmaster of a very popular site with the same content of my BBS (he'd link me alot on his site)...It worked, since then I've been the most popular BBS on that area

You know what works like magic? Start some flame bait, then use your "holy" personality and fight with this imaginary jerkoff. Do this a few times to encourage others to join it, but make sure it's pretty clear that one side is totally right and the other is totally wrong. That way it's easy for your users to choose sides.

Another way is to get together with other webmasters who need help in their boards and you post in his board, while he posts in your board.
                        Well, there it is.

getting it started *is* the hardest part because people come, they see little or no activity, then someone will post, go a few days without a reply (other than from yourself) become discouraged, wander away, etc.

Then, next thing you know another comes along, then another, then another and soon you have a small handful. More people will poke their heads in, see a little activity, start posting and voila, you have a community

And awaaaayyyy they go. I had about 15 me's running around the board when I first started and then people started to pile in...the trick is not to post too much with one user.

Post a few...then get another online and post with that one....and so on..it works.

Hehe..I am glad to see I wasnt the only one who did this. I felt ashamed.
